Where to stay in Zermatt
Car-free, year-round skiing on the Theodul glacier, and the highest lift-served terrain in Europe. Arrivals are by train from Täsch. Where you stay matters more here than almost anywhere else, because the resort is long and thin and there are three completely separate lift bases.

- No cars: park at Täsch and take the 12-minute shuttle train, or use an e-taxi from the station.
- Three lift bases sit at opposite ends of the village — 'close to the lift' means nothing until you know which lift.
- You do not have to walk. Two free electric bus lines run through the village: the green-bumper buses shuttle between the lift stations every 8 to 10 minutes, and the red ones loop Winkelmatten. Plenty of good places are a 20-minute walk and a 10-minute ride, and nobody staying there walks.
- E-taxis run all day and are metered. Note that hotel taxis are not permitted to drop you at the ski lifts — that has to be a regular e-taxi.
- Tourist tax is charged per person per night on top of the room rate.
- The village is walkable end to end in about 25 minutes, uphill on the way back.
